As the general manager of Turf Valley Resort, a family-owned business in Howard County, it has always been important to me and my family to be good corporate citizens. As such we try to support the many good causes, organizations and events here in the county—many of which are held at Turf Valley Resort. Gilchrist’s 2018 Taste of Howard County has been held here for well over 25 years, and it consistently draws over 500 people along with many of the county’s finest restaurants, including our restaurant here at Turf Valley, Alexandra’s.

Last year I was invited to become personally involved with Gilchrist as the event chair of the 2018 Taste of Howard County, and I am excited to serve again this year. I am honored to work with an organization with such a stellar reputation that does so much for so many. Though I have never used Gilchrist services personally, every person I know who has speaks highly of their experience.

This year’s theme for the Taste event is Merriment in Masquerade. The event will be held on Saturday, October 21, at Turf Valley Resort and will feature food from more than 20 of Howard County’s premier caterers and restaurateurs. We’ll be offering over a hundred items for bid in our silent and live auctions, as well as a cash raffle. All proceeds from the event will support Gilchrist Center Howard County, the only inpatient hospice center in the county. As a nonprofit, Gilchrist relies on fundraising events and the support of generous donors. Insurance does not cover the full cost of patient care and Gilchrist accepts every patient, regardless of ability to pay.

It’s been a pleasure working with the event team at Gilchrist. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with wonderful people on the event committee, and I am amazed at how giving they all are—not just financially, but of their talents to make this such a good event. My experience with Gilchrist’s Taste of Howard County has been wonderful, and the old saying “The more you give, the more you receive” has certainly proven true for me these last two years.

I hope you will come out and support your neighbors, friends and family in Howard County who are in need of hospice care. To learn more or buy tickets, visit https://gilchristcares.org/events/taste/.
