Community Supports Gilchrist’s Care Teams During the Pandemic

April 16, 2020, Elder Medical Care, Gilchrist, Hospice, Palliative

With your support, together our story goes on.

1,008. That is the number of patients that Gilchrist is caring for throughout our community at this time. Across Baltimore, Howard, Harford, Carroll, and Anne Arundel counties, as well as Baltimore City, our care teams of hospice aides, doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains and music therapists visited, comforted and cared for 1,008 patients. Some are at home. Some are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Others are in our 3 inpatient centers. Many are isolated from family due to visitation restrictions during the COVID crisis.

Donned in personal protective equipment, Gilchrist’s clinical staff bravely take on the dual role of caregiver and connector – checking the health and well-being of each patient. Our Elder Medical Care and Hospice care teams recognize the importance of their role during this unprecedented time. They want nothing more than to have the resources and equipment to do their job expertly.

That is why they were so appreciative this week when a grateful family who had recently lost a loved one in Gilchrist’s care made a generous contribution that provided meals to clinical staff in the field and in the centers. In partnership with Kooper’s Tavern, Looney’s Pub and SteelFire Kitchen & Bar, over 250 team members felt the same love they share with their own patients each day.

I am in my late 60s and live alone, with no spouse or children to support me. If I get COVID 19, I do NOT want to take hospital, doctor, nurse, or ventilator resources to try to keep me alive. Will Gilchrist accept me to keep me comfortable until I die (or recover on my own)?
