Volunteer Support for Families and Patients
Volunteer support is an essential resource for families, offering compassionate help at home, in senior living communities, and in our care centers. Volunteers provide companionship, assist with errands, offer respite for caregivers, and lend a caring presence when it is needed most.
The Role of the Volunteer
Hospice volunteers play a vital role in hospice care organizations. Volunteers do not provide medical care or clinical advice; instead, they offer companionship and a comforting presence. They may spend time talking with patients and families, reading aloud, playing favorite games, or simply sharing quiet moments.

Volunteers bring a wealth of knowledge and life perspectives. Each volunteer completes extensive training to understand patients’ and families’ needs and how to support them with sensitivity and respect. In addition to companionship and respite, volunteers may provide specialized services tailored to their skills and interests.
Volunteer services may include:
- Bedside companionship from end-of-life doulas during the final stages of life
- Salute to Service ceremonies for veterans
- Life review support, including reminiscing and recording personal stories
- Comfort and emotional support for patients and families
- Assistance to caregivers with errands
- Light housekeeping and help with simple chores
All volunteers are carefully screened and thoroughly trained, and they are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the families they serve. Hospice volunteers offer compassionate support and build meaningful personal connections with patients and their loved ones.
