What Is the Counseling and Support Program at Gilchrist?

Counseling services are woven throughout all of Gilchrist’s care offerings. Our highly trained grief counselors support patients and families before, during, and after a life-limiting diagnosis or loss, providing compassionate guidance and emotional care.

Grief Care

Extensive services for every stage of serious illness.

Gilchrist understands the impact of receiving a serious or life-limiting diagnosis. Our counselors are available to provide emotional support both before and after a loss. During bereavement, we offer one-on-one grief counseling, support groups, workshops, and remembrance events.

Because each person copes with grief in a very personal and unique way, Gilchrist offers services free of charge to help you explore, understand, and express the grief that is exclusively yours.

If you are not sure what services you need, our care navigators (888.823.8880) are available to answer your questions and connect you to resources that can help.

Our Compassionate Counselors

Our Counseling team understands that navigating care options for a serious illness can be stressful and overwhelming, and that you may have many questions. They are here to help you explore care choices for a loved one, even if hospice is not yet needed. Anyone may call for guidance — patients, family members, friends, or physicians.

Grief Care Frequently Asked Questions

There are few things more stressful than dealing with a serious illness or coping with the death of a loved one. Below are the answers to frequently asked questions about our Grief Care program. If you have more questions, our care navigators can help. Call 888.823.8880.

I have support from my friends and family. Why should I seek out grief support?

Even if just for a single one-on-one session, working with a counselor can help you sort out your emotions and figure out the course you may want to follow on your grief journey. And while you may ultimately not need regular one-on-one counseling, you may find our other grief offerings, including support groups and workshops, helpful.

My partner is on hospice, and I’m currently struggling with the idea of them dying. Is there anyone at Gilchrist who can help me now?

Yes. Our specially trained bereavement counselors can provide emotional support prior to a loved one’s death. After your loss, that same counselor will continue to offer you support, if needed.

How will I pay for Gilchrist grief services?

Grief support is an essential part of hospice care—not an add-on. For families served by Gilchrist Hospice Care, time-limited one-on-one grief counseling is provided at no charge.

For members of the broader community who were not on service with Gilchrist, grief counseling is currently available at no charge; however, we may return to a sliding-scale, ensuring support remains accessible. In addition, while some one-day workshops or special events may include a nominal fee, all ongoing support groups and most educational seminars are offered at no cost.
