Gilchrist and Inova Partner to Bring Expert Hospice Care to Northern Virginia
Fairfax, VA – August 6, 2025 – Inova, Northern Virginia’s premier nonprofit healthcare system, and Gilchrist, Maryland’s leading nonprofit provider of geriatric, palliative, and hospice care, today announced a strategic joint venture to expand compassionate, integrated hospice care into Northern Virginia. Patient care through the Inova-Gilchrist collaboration is expected to begin in early 2026.
Gilchrist Hospice and Inova bring together two mission-driven, non-profit leaders in serious illness care, united in their commitment to honoring the dignity, values, and needs of individuals and families. By combining Gilchrist’s award-winning hospice expertise with Inova’s expansive healthcare network, the collaboration will ensure patients have access to high-quality hospice care wherever they call home – whether in the comfort of a private residence, a senior living community, or within an Inova hospital.
“The collaboration between Gilchrist and Inova represents a powerful alignment of values and vision,” said Catherine Hamel, President of Gilchrist. “Together, we’re building a model that meets complex medical needs while also supporting their emotional and spiritual well-being. We help people live every moment with comfort and peace and assure their families receive the support they need through one of life’s most critical and vulnerable times.”
As the aging population continues to grow, the integrated care model will span Inova hospitals and home-based settings across the region, creating a seamless transition that reduces care gaps and helps prevent avoidable and often burdensome hospital readmissions. With this collaboration, more individuals will receive the care they need, when and where they need it.
“We are proud to work alongside Gilchrist to better meet the needs of our patients approaching end of life by expanding access to compassionate, coordinated hospice care,” said John Moynihan, MD, Chief, Clinical Enterprise, Inova. “Together, we’re strengthening our ability to provide trusted, reliable support for patients and families during their most vulnerable stages of care.
Together, Gilchrist and Inova are setting a new benchmark for hospice care in Northern Virginia—one that is centered on the needs of the community, wherever they call home.
