The Lifecare Institute
The Lifecare Institute provides an integrated continuum of hospice, palliative, and in-home medical care for adults living with serious or advanced illness throughout Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland. We meet people where they are, physically and emotionally.
Innovating a new way of caring
We bring together the combined expertise of two nationally recognized organizations: Luminis Health and Gilchrist. Luminis Health is a leading health system, with numerous locations across eight counties. Together, we are innovating a new way of caring.
What makes The Lifecare Institute different is the time we take to provide expert medical care, alongside genuine emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families.
We bring together the strength of Luminis Health with the nationally recognized hospice and palliative care expertise of Gilchrist. This partnership allows us to care for patients earlier, more personally, and more continuously than traditional hospice alone.
A cornerstone of our approach is palliative care, a service many people don’t realize exists, and one that many hospice providers do not offer. Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with serious illness. It focuses on relief from pain and symptoms, emotional support, and guidance through complex decisions, and it can be provided at any stage of illness, alongside curative treatment.
Specialized Support Programs at The Lifecare Institute
In addition to expert medical care, we offer specialized patient and family support including:
- Veteran services and recognition
- Music Therapy
- Pet Therapy
- Chaplaincy and emotional support
- Legacy projects
- Caregiver Respite Relief
- Companionship and presence with trained volunteers
Our care feels human, because it is. This dedicated team of professionals and volunteers are committed to you and your family. Their work is not a job, but a calling.

Care, counseling and support to help you live life to the fullest.
Illness doesn’t happen in one place, and neither does our care. The Lifecare Institute provides coordinated hospice, palliative, and in-home care across every setting, including private homes, senior living communities, hospice facilities and hospitals.
We’ve built strong, trusted relationships with senior living communities, assisted living, and long-term care staff. Our physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, volunteers, and chaplains complement the care already in place, working alongside existing teams to provide added medical expertise, comfort, and support, centered on quality of life.

Palliative Care Consultations
A Lifecare Institute clinician will visit you to talk about your illness, perform a physical exam, and take time to fully understand your symptoms. They’ll review how your medications and treatments are working, ask how you’re coping, and discuss your goals for care—along with any challenges that may be standing in the way.
