Our 4th Annual Spring Jazz Brunch is now the Stay Home Jazz Brunch, benefiting Gilchrist Center Baltimore! Spend your Sunday morning enjoying the sounds of jazz from the Cold Spring Jazz Quartet and a delicious brunch, all from the comfort of your own home.

Your Support is Needed…More Than Ever Before
Gilchrist Center Baltimore is the only residential inpatient hospice in Baltimore. Our mission is to serve everyone in need, without discrimination, and regardless of their ability to pay. Many of our patients come to us from some of the most underserved neighborhoods in Baltimore City. Without Gilchrist, some of the city’s most vulnerable would die alone on the streets or in hospitals.
Gilchrist Center Baltimore provides comprehensive hospice care to patients around the clock, using a team approach that involves medical, social, emotional and spiritual disciplines, as well as volunteer support. Every patient is assigned a team of professionals that includes physicians, registered nurses, clinical social workers, hospice aides, volunteers and chaplains to fully ensure that all issues related to quality of life are fully addressed in a timely manner. Additional services such as Music Therapy, We Honor Veterans and The Jewish Care and Support Program are also offered.
Bereavement services are also a vital component of our care. Gilchrist offers care and support to families before and after a death, through one on one grief counseling support groups and other offerings.
Additionally, Gilchrist Center Baltimore is home to the only inpatient pediatric hospice unit in Maryland. The unit is part of Gilchrist Kids, the only pediatric hospice program in Baltimore City and one of the largest in the country. The pediatric wing at Gilchrist Center Baltimore offers both hospice care and respite care, which allows a young patient to stay with us while their family is relieved from the responsibility of the child’s daily care.
Many of Gilchrist Center Baltimore’s patients are homeless or low income. Although Medicare, Medicaid and other insurers pay for hospice care, they do not pay for the cost of room and board for patients which is $250 per day. Long-term care facilities often will not accept this populations because of their inability to pay. With the exception of Gilchrist Center Baltimore, that leaves hospitals as the only other viable option. The total cost savings to the state by Gilchrist caring for these patients, as opposed to Maryland hospitals, is estimated at $6.7 million per year.
