When Is the right time for hospice?

Gilchrist offers a continuum of care from elder medical care through end-of-life care. If you or a loved one has a life-limiting illness, you may be wondering if you are ready for hospice. It’s important to understand that choosing hospice does not mean giving up hope. In fact, the earlier hospice is started the more it can help.

Are You Ready for Hospice?

A person of any age can be eligible for services. Hospice is about living your last days, weeks and months to the fullest. It allows you to spend precious moments with loved ones. All hospice services are 100% covered by Medicare. The services provide medical and nursing care, social work support, home health care, spiritual care and volunteer assistance, as well as grief counseling.

According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity. Special needs are best handled by specialists. The most frequent comment heard from families is that they wish they had called sooner. Many people do not realize all the services hospice has to offer. Gilchrist has a team in place to support and guide you through this process. The team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, music therapists, and volunteers.
