Gilchrist’s Social Work Training Institute – Seminar Series
Gilchrist’s Social Work Training Institute (SWTI) offers a series of seminars to enhance the skills, knowledge and competencies for social workers in our healthcare community. The SWTI is approved to offer continuing education units (CEUs) by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.

Key features of this seminar series include:
- Seminars range in length from one hour to three hours or longer depending on the subject and the presenter(s).
- Seminars are virtual.
- Each seminar has clearly stated learning objectives.
- Seminars are designed to be interactive through questions, discussions, and activities.
- Seminars are planned and scheduled months in advance.
- Seminar presenters must complete and submit the Seminar Proposal Form before their seminar is scheduled.
Seminar presenters must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Social Work from an accredited program, or an advanced degree in a discipline that frequently collaborates with social workers, or demonstrated expertise in a related subject area.
- Demonstrates an understanding of adult learning styles and can incorporate appropriate teaching and training techniques into a presentation.
- Demonstrates an expertise in the specific topic or subject area.
- Familiarity with continuing education target audience.
CEU Requirements:
A continuing education unit (CEU) or continuing education credit (CEC) is a measure used in continuing education programs to assist the professional to maintain their license in their profession. Continuing education or professional development is required in many fields, including social work.
Gilchrist has been authorized by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to award CEUs for social workers.

Gilchrist offers seminars for CEUs through their Social Work Training Institute (SWTI). The SWTI continuing education program must meet the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners criteria for continuing education programs. The presenters conducting seminars within this continuing education program must also meet the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners qualifications.
CEU Guidelines
To ensure you receive your CEUs for participating in our training sessions, please adhere to the following:
- Timeliness: Training sessions will commence 5 minutes past the scheduled time. For example, a 1.5 hour session scheduled for 9:00AM will begin at 9:05AM and conclude at 10:40AM. This adjustment accommodates initial housekeeping, introductions, and necessary breaks.
- Late Admissions: Entry to the session will not be permitted if you arrive more than 5 minutes after the start time. We aim to minimize disruptions and respect the learning environment for all participants.
- Participant Identification: Please display your full name on your ZOOM or TEAMS profile. Additionally, we will ask that you enter your name and e-mail address in the CHAT box at the beginning of the session.
- Camera Requirement: Your camera must be on throughout the session to verify your attendance and engagement.
- Engagement: Active participation is expected to enhance the learning experience for yourself and your peers.
- Completion: You must stay for the entire session to receive your QR code and complete the evaluation. Unfortunately, QR codes cannot be issued post session.
