Ten years ago, a bill was signed into law in Maryland officially designating March 30 as Vietnam Veterans Day, honoring the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Vietnam War. On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Gilchrist will proudly host its 7th Annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration to honor and thank the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War. This special event will take place at 12:00 p.m. at Martin’s West in Windsor Mill, MD.
Honoring Our Vietnam Veterans
For many Vietnam veterans, a proper welcome home was never given when they returned from service. At Gilchrist, we are committed to recognizing their sacrifices and ensuring they receive the gratitude and respect they deserve. This event is a heartfelt tribute to all those who served during this pivotal time in our nation’s history. “We are humbled to present an event that honors Vietnam veterans who may not have felt honored or appreciated in the past. We hope that the Vietnam veterans in attendance will feel pride in their service and healing from past wounds,” says Kimberlee McDonnell, We Honor Veterans Coordinator.
Keynote Speaker: Captain Charlie Plumb
We are honored to welcome Captain Charlie Plumb as this year’s keynote speaker. Captain Plumb is a former Navy Fighter Pilot, Vietnam War POW, author, and nationally renowned motivational speaker. During his nearly six years of captivity in Vietnam, he distinguished himself among his fellow prisoners by maintaining underground communications and serving as the Chaplain in his camp for two years. Since returning home, Captain Plumb has shared his powerful story with over 4,000 audiences, inspiring people from all walks of life by drawing parallels between his POW experiences and everyday life’s challenges.
