At Gilchrist, a career is more than a job—it’s a calling to walk alongside patients and families during some of life’s most important moments. While many people think of hospice care as primarily nursing, Gilchrist offers a wide range of meaningful roles, from physicians, chaplains, and social workers to access center nurses, music therapists, bereavement counselors, and home care aides. Each member of our team plays an essential part in providing the compassionate, whole-person care that defines Gilchrist. Below, our team members share in their own words what makes working at Gilchrist so rewarding.
“I feel immense gratitude to be a hospice physician, caring for patients with the most complex medical and emotional needs alongside the most compassionate and interdisciplinary team across the whole health care system. Every day, I’m inspired by my incredible colleagues and reminded of the profound beauty and fragility of life.” — Charlotte Grinberg, MD, Gilchrist Hospice Medical Director Howard IPU, Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute Hospice Medical Director
“As a nurse on the Gilchrist Kids team, I love working at Gilchrist because of the unique and sacred pediatric population we serve here at Gilchrist. In my role I can build strong and trusting relationships with families while they are facing what many would say is the most difficult time of their lives. While I am unable to change their child’s prognosis, what I can change is how they feel navigating it. I always promise them that they’re not alone and ensure they feel fully supported and cared for by our team. I also value the relationships I build with each of my patients. Their comfort, safety and happiness are at the forefront, and I care for them the same way I would want my own children cared for. The most rewarding part of this job is when we can honor a family and child’s wishes for their end-of-life care with our team’s involvement, whether that be in the home or another setting, and knowing that our involvement made a positive impact and difference.” — Kristi Choyce, Home Care Nurse
“I love working at Gilchrist because hospice chaplaincy is deeply meaningful and satisfying work. I’m part of a compassionate and professional team whose dedication inspires me every day. What I find most rewarding is the privilege of walking alongside patients and families during sacred moments — offering presence, prayer, communion, and conversation. I cherish the opportunity to be God’s servant, to build genuine relationships, and to help others find peace, connection, and hope at the end of life.” — Richard Zyne, Chaplain
“I have spent more than 20 years in various roles as a hospice nurse and have worked in many different settings. Each position I have held has allowed me the opportunity to learn invaluable lessons about both life and death and to have the amazing gift of working with patients and families during their final time together. I have had the privilege to share what I consider the most rewarding and intimate phase of life with many patients and families. It is truly a gift to be welcomed into the homes and lives of families that do not know me and to be trusted to help them prepare for this time in their life as they balance the physical and emotional pain on a path so full of unknowns. During my eight years with Gilchrist, I have been privileged to work alongside of the most supportive, caring and compassionate hospice professionals. Everyone that works in hospice has the ability to make a difference in the lives of those they serve and being a part of the Gilchrist team has truly been my best experience in providing hospice care.” — Carolyn Criscuoli, Access Center RN
“I love my role as a grief counselor because it allows me to provide a compassionate and safe space for individuals during one of life’s most challenging times. Witnessing their journey from profound sorrow towards the beginnings of healing and growth is both a privilege and a deeply rewarding experience.” — Dawn Tippett, Clinical Counselor
“What I find most meaningful in my role is the emotional connection with folks. Providing them with empathy and unconditional positive regard, letting them know that they are not alone in their journey. I often say- at the end of the day, we all just want to be cared for and loved- as a member of the hospice team, I feel so incredibly honored to provide that.” — Angel Keil, Clinical Social Worker
“My daughter Kiya, who passed away in 2003, is the reason why I chose Gilchrist. Little did I know the Gilchrist Kids team would need me just as much as I needed them. I had the pleasure of working both Peds and Adults, which gave me balance. Working on the kids’ team was healing for me because what I didn’t receive when my daughter passed was what I was able to give to the patients and families I met. I had family and friends who were there for me, but they didn’t understand what I was feeling. I was able to empathize with my families as I too had walked this road they are now faced with. It gave my life purpose knowing that I was able to help these parents face losing a child and dealing with life after the loss.” — Kimberely Ross, Scheduling Specialist
