COVID-19 Update for Patients and Families


Gilchrist is continually monitoring the coronavirus developments in Maryland. We are following all local, state and federal public health guidance to keep our patients, staff and community as safe as possible while continuing to provide needed services to our patients and families.

For Home Care Families

We strongly suggest you limit the number of visitors to your home and the frequency of visits. We discourage visits with younger people, as they can be carriers, and with those who have not routinely visited in the past.

We urge you to consider using Zoom, Skype or other video conferencing tools that allow you to see and talk to friends and family without compromising your environment. We recognize that this may present some challenges but strongly encourage you to use these tools for everyone’s safety.

For Inpatient Visitors

We are following government recommendations regarding visitors to our inpatient centers – Gilchrist Center Towson, Gilchrist Center Baltimore and Gilchrist Center Howard County. Our teams are communicating with patients and families daily. For the latest visitor policy, please contact the inpatient center directly.

Grief Support

We are operating as usual on a virtual platform.  We offer grief counseling to individuals and families, support groups, special events and pop-up breathing workshops. You can read more on our Grief Counseling page or learn more about our support group options.

Volunteer Visits

We have resumed a limited amount of in-person volunteer roles, including providing respite to caregivers as needed, and volunteers in our three Gilchrist Centers.

Gilchrist COVID-19 Support Fund

As a nonprofit, fundraising efforts sustain Gilchrist’s programmatic needs. But as COVID-19 continues to impact our organization and community, a new priority has developed. A special fund has been created to allow the organization to respond to emergent needs as staff experience unexpected childcare issues or additional hardships while continuing to care for our patients every day during this crisis. The fund will also help Gilchrist purchase additional personal protective equipment and medical supplies that are urgently needed.
